This month’s vintage idea is all about gallery walls. You’ve probably admired them on Instagram and maybe been inspired to create one of your own. I was definitely inspired, but I was also intimidated. I have enough trouble finding a place for one picture and measuring like a crazy person to get it hung just right.

I now have two small gallery walls in my home. Both have “themes” ~ the first is nature and the second is children’s books. This wasn’t deliberate and it’s definitely not necessary to have a theme. It could just be a bunch of things you love arranged in a pleasing manner, or maybe there’s a color scheme, or all mirrors… A gallery wall of assorted mirrors would be amazing! My nature themed gallery wall happened organically. It started out as a pair of prints centered over a cabinet that became a small gallery as I found more “had to have” items in thrift stores with no idea what I’d do with them. Hey ~ hang them on that wall over the cabinet!

My children’s books gallery came about because I had a framed chalk drawing my son did in elementary school that I wanted to hang. It was a penguin illustration that he copied from one of his books. It got me thinking. I have so many favorite books from when I was a kid, many of them that I read to my own kids. Frog and Toad, Little Bear, Dr. Seuss, The Berenstain Bears. So I framed some of my favorite pages from old used children’s books to hang up with the chalk drawing. It makes me smile to see them every day and I hope to keep adding to this wall. Great memories and gorgeous illustrations! (Tip ~ I laid the frames out on the floor and tried different arrangements before committing to the wall)
